Debbie Buttar was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but relocated to the South after graduating from the University of South Carolina. Debbie and her husband, Dr. Rashid Buttar, live together on their farm with their sons and daughter. The animals on their farm include horses, miniature donkeys, cows, llamas, goats, dogs, cats, and a chinchilla. Her husband’s clinic specializes in effectively treating patients whom the medical community has failed or given up on, with a special emphasis on cancer patients and children diagnosed with autism. A portion of the proceeds of this book go to AMESPA Children’s Research and Treatment Foundation, which her husband started for the medical treatment of children suffering from these and other conditions traditionally considered to be untreatable.

Alternating chapters describe protagonists Frieda and Robin’s beginnings in life, combining great story telling and well-developed relationships. The back story of the main characters was relatable, and I love that! I think many can identify with eating for comfort and how much that can control your life, and being bullied growing up. Reading the transformation of both characters was not only fun, but inspiring. In this book you genuinely dislike the villains and love the heroes.
