New Release – Vapor Trails

Book Description:

“Well I have just devoured your book – Impossible to put down – you have a sure winner! Not only was it a great read but I learned a heck of a lot in the process. You really need to find the best way to market this as it will appeal to a wide range of people.” “…the book is fantastic and sure to be a best seller – just get the word out with some “tidbits” to the mystery adventure crowd as well as the environmentalists.” “The novel combines some very important elements: the inside story of the energy business and the climate crisis in a way that average people can really relate to: not why you should buy an energy-efficient light bulb but through a suspenseful story of a guy who started out as someone who was in his own way destroying the environment and ended up horrified at what he’d done and on a new and better path.” “Really exciting stuff… I could hear the voiceover for a movie trailer.” “Very enjoyable and informative. I think you have crafted a unique vehicle to educate the reader on some important issues. Great job! Who do you envision playing Mason Burnside in the movie?”

New Release – Melting Down

Book Description:

Melting Down by environmental consultant Harvey Stone is an environmental thriller based upon 1) well-researched scientific data and 2) real-world, geo-political scenarios. The novel tracks an international terrorist plot to exploit the changing climate in order to fulfill Russia’s historical destiny: world domination. It includes political intrigue, suspense, and action that span the globe from Hawaii to the Arctic and from Washington to Moscow. Within the fictional plot, Melting Down embeds key aspects of the science behind the changing climate, as well as its observed and predicted impacts. It also explores a systems-oriented approach for simultaneously solving many of today’s economic, social, and environmental problems.Briefly, Melting Down’s plot takes place in the final weeks of a too-close-to-call US Presidential election. President Charley Breen must overcome overwhelming personal tragedy and political pressure in order to stop the terrorist plot.Admiral Boris Sukirov and his high-ranking co-conspirators view the disappearing Arctic sea ice as Russia’s final opportunity to control the world. Arming mercenaries with suitcase nuclear devices, they hold the world’s glaciers hostage while exploiting the real-world scenarios that readers hear about in today’s media.Tex Cassidy is the President’s life-long friend, a Pulitzer-nominated investigative reporter, and a master at uncovering the connections between seemingly unrelated actions. He teams up with Zavia Jansen, a world-class designer of storm-surge barriers, in a global manhunt that must uncover and derail “Operation Noah.”As they crisscross the globe to achieve their goals, Melting Down’s characters represent many scientific, political and moral viewpoints. These viewpoints range from energy stakeholders to scientists calling for immediate action to political climate-deniers. The viewpoints also address questions such as “who benefits from the changing climate?” and “is there a way to mitigate the worst aspects of the changing climate?”

Author Biography:

Harvey is a former psychologist turned corporate speechwriter turned environmental consultant. For the last ten years, he has specialized in helping corporations, municipalities and government agencies to implement a “triple bottom line” approach. This approach simultaneously addresses social, economic, and environmental problems while reducing risks, lowering costs and improving efficiency.

Harvey began his career as a psychologist and large-group workshop leader, working with more than 15,000 people in personal growth training programs. Later, he founded a speechwriting company that 1) provided services to Apple, Hewlett Packard, Visa and many other corporate clients and 2) provided him with a high-level, back-door education in the constraints and drivers of multi-national corporations.

In the early 2000’s, Harvey co-founded and co-managed a consulting firm that assisted Bausch and Lomb, Cray Computers and other companies to comply with EU, Asian and other governmental toxicity and electronic waste laws. Most recently, he has worked with EPA Regions 7 and 8. the Kansas City Municipal Climate Action Plan Task Force and other entities to implement triple bottom line solutions.

Over the years, Harvey has been actively involved in cutting-edge activities related to environmental, economic and social issues. For instance, he:

Was one of six U.S. representatives on the U.S.-Japan Sustainability Task Force that explored cross-cultural sustainability issues and solutions
Helped to found the Green Building Council of Santa Fe
Was the only U.S. representative to speak at an E.U. stakeholder meeting ion system solutions
Developed training programs for thought-leading organizations like The Natural Step and ZERI (Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives)
A decade ago, Harvey hosted a weekly radio show for three years that focused on positive steps that countries, companies and communities were taking to move us towards a more sustainable world. He will shortly launch a new radio show that focuses on Triple Bottom Line implementations.

Harvey is a Brandeis University alumnus, who graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Union Graduate School, after earning an M.A. equivalent at the University of Texas at Austin. He taught at Loretto Heights College in Denver and also served as an instructor in the M.B.A. program at the University of California at Berkeley from 1995 – 1999.

Harvey and his wife, Fleur Green, have lived in the Santa Fe, NM area for twenty years.

As a citizen, father and grandfather, Harvey takes seriously the “melting down” threats to our national security and to our highly fragile, inter-connected world. These threats include international terrorism, the changing climate and ultra-narrow, human self-interest. Melting Down is his first novel.
