Praise for There’s More Than One Way to Be Okay

Lauren Merryfield’s book gives a delightful insight into the life of a successful and warmhearted blind person. The ingenious ways she overcomes life’s formidable challenges were a complete revelation to me. The degree of success she has achieved in her life is an inspiration to us all. For a humorous glimpse into an unusual life filled with cats and characters, this is the book we all need to read.

– Elaine “Dusty” Foster, Colorado entrepreneur

This book is not only an interesting autobiographical sketch of the life and experiences of a woman who happens to be blind, but she also shares insights and knowledge gleaned through those life experiences, the education she received, and her own contemplation of life in its many-faceted aspects that should prove helpful to anyone who reads it. I am a braille proofreader by profession and was honored, as Lauren’s best friend, to be asked to help edit the manuscript. I found it to be very entertaining and well written, and I encourage anyone to read this delightful book.

New Age/Spirituality: “Restoring Oneness: The Butterfly Trilogy” by Petrus

“An inspirational discourse that speaks about man’s need
for a spiritual metamorphosis…”

Image

“Written in the voice of a Guru, Petrus aims at guiding the reader through the spiritual process to ultimately achieve inner peace and wisdom, thus emerging a new being in total harmony and unity with God and the Universe.”

– Anna Suanco, Swan Dancer Book Reviews

Until now we’ve held ourselves apart from the universe and lived in loneliness and fear. But the key to universal life is given back to us now, and each one of us is free to choose afresh. This inspirational book will serve as a guide to anyone seeking a clearer sense of personal choice as one age ends and a new one begins.
“Restoring Oneness” combines the influential spiritual volumes of “The Butterfly Trilogy” by Petrus. The first volume, “Ecstasy in Unity,” heralds the wondrous metamorphosis coming now to Earth, as we regain the realization that all things at their centre are One. Just as caterpillars become butterflies, those who crawl in separation can reconstitute themselves to fly in unity.  The second volume, “Sex in God,” discovers that sexuality is not opposed but rather native to divinity, and that our sexual desire is integral to universal development. The third volume, “Azimuth for New Earth,” further articulates personal and planetary transmutation, and tells how we will make the journey to a New Earth.

Petrus writes about humanity’s present passage from fear to love through the realization of God within ourselves. Born in Canada in 1958, he began a sustained practice of meditation at the age of 18. He pursued his education in the social sciences and a career in international and organizational development. The focus of his efforts shifted dramatically in 2001, when he first encountered sacred geometry, and began building and sleeping in a series of space-frames using fractal symmetry and the golden ratio (1.618…). These devices concentrate the life force and enable cosmic resonance. With their aid, the author shifted his awareness from separation to unity, and began to think and communicate from his higher self. Petrus composed the “Butterfly Trilogy” and his “Discourses” to share a new perspective on our experience as a journey from self-denial to self-realization.

Laughter is the Best Medicine: Book Review of Jack Hinson’s “Laughter Was God’s Idea: Stories About Healing Humor”

I didn’t expect the absolute wonderful way this book was written! The objective of this book was to convince the reader to let loose a bit and laugh some more. It gave the pros and cons of dealing with tense and difficult situations with humour, using both bible quotes and scientific evidence to back up the amazing side effects of laughing. Not only that, there was a delightful and pleasant structure to the cutely parceled and packaged short stories…The jokes and laughter brought a smile to my face, and the stories were sweet…     – Mawa Mahima

It is believed that humor is one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity. It was His intention from the beginning to provide us with a mechanism to address the tension of existence. He knew His children, living under pressure in a world of demands and deadlines, would need a way to release, so He created something called laughter. Laughter reduces muscle tension, exercises our lungs, and strengthens our immune system. Laughter is still the best medicine.
Readers of Jack Hinson’s work Laughter Was God’s Idea will gain insight and courage to accept the gift of laughter as a means to enjoy life and make the world a better place. Through excessive doses of laughter every day, and by sharing this extraordinary gift with others, it is Hinson’s intention to bring to light the healing power of humor.

A REVIEW FOR EVERYONE WHO SHOULD ‘STOP SMOKING’ BY VERN BENSON

Vern Benson holds a bachelor’s degree in physics, a master’s in mathematics, and a certificate in meteorology, and has had a highly successful career in the electronics and aerospace industries. After four years in the United States Air Force, Benson was a physics and math professor at Midland University and Kansas University. He gave up teaching to spend 30 years as an engineer and salesman in the electronics and aerospace industries. Benson has successfully quit smoking and has been a non-smoker for over 25 years.

Image

Vern Benson’s recently published guide to quitting smoking is a surprisingly engaging read for smokers and non-smokers alike. The author, rather than focusing upon the act of quitting or relying upon scare-tactics, presents a concise and logical overview of how habits are formed. After outlining the process of habit formation, he outlines the ways in which individuals can use the machinery of the mind and body to develop the habit of not smoking.

Throughout the book Vern Benson emphasizes the autonomy and power of the individual in the smoking process. I believe this is a point of no small significance to smokers, as addiction can often lead to feelings of depression and powerlessness. Benson also employs a noticeably nonjudgmental and objective tone as he describes the steps involved in forming and breaking habits. His analysis of the human mind is quite thorough, with an academic yet accessible and interesting writing style. Despite the fact that I am not a smoker, I found myself fascinated with his arguments and extremely interested in his analyses of the human mind.

Benson’s work is engaging and meticulous, and likely ideal for those seeking a logic-based approach to quitting smoking. It is a no-frills guide that…appeals to and stimulates the reader’s intellect. Considering the quality of this book’s content (as well as its price and brevity), I would definitely recommend it.

A New Kind of “Diet”: Dr. Linda Harper’s ‘Eat: A Guide to Understanding Your Natural Relationship with Food’

For over one hundred years, our culture has promoted dieting—with the goal of losing weight—as the acceptable way to eat. With this aim of weight loss, a diet determines your eating choices and in turn creates a thought system that prevents you from trusting your natural ability to make the right choices about eating. Our inner wisdom, or best self, quietly speaks to us through intuition, gut feelings, physical cravings and thoughts about the present moment, whereas beliefs focused on specific outcomes, such as weight loss-focused dieting, push their way to the forefront of our minds and block our ability to enjoy the present. The purpose of this book is to remove the barriers preventing you from accessing and trusting your own best self in choosing and creating each eating experience.
‘Eat’ provides the tools you need to remove the thoughts that are obstructing your inner wisdom and replace those thoughts with ones that will guide you back to everyday eating choices that stem from your best self. Linda R. Harper’s simple five-step guide will help you access your best self and discover your natural and healthy relationship with food, leaving the rules of dieting behind.

Image

“The most inspirational book I have ever read!”

Instead of yet another fad diet, [Dr. Harper] introduces a method focused on teaching you how to throw away all of the diet rules and obsessions that you may not have even realized were running your life. She shows you how to look within yourself in order to find your “best self” and she gives you the tools necessary to rebuild your inner trust with food and eating. Rebuilding this trust is the key to finally achieving peace with food and becoming a “soulful” eater. I recommend this book to anyone struggling with dieting or facing a negative relationship with food; it will change how you feel about eating forever.

‘One Christian’s Perspective of Man’s Dilemma God’s Solution’ by Steve Lampman

People today consider many different things as constituting man’s dilemma—health problems, unemployment, poverty, crime, war, and so on. Each, of course, is a problem found in every society, excluding none. One could say man’s dilemma is universal.  However, each of the things listed above is actually the result of man’s dilemma, and not the cause. The cause is found in man’s depravity. In that depravity, every un-regenerated human being sets his own standard for conducting his life. Man has rejected the absolute standard of his creator, and as a result is alienated not only from God, but from his fellow man. Man has no solution for this and therein lies the dilemma. God, on the other hand, has the solution; it is found in His provision, the Lord Jesus Christ.  In the pages of this work the author considers man’s dilemma God’s solution from eleven different perspectives. Each chapter is a study in itself but fits nicely as one completed work.

One Christian's_Front Cover

Steve Lampman became a Christian on November 17, 1961 when as a young marine on liberty he came upon a street meeting held by Open Air Campaigners for Christ in the city of Los Angeles, California. For the remaining three years of his enlistment after coming to faith, Steve immersed himself in various books and studies concerning his relationship with Christ. During those three years, he worshipped in Los Angeles and was discipled by three families who were members of Granada Heights Friends Church and nurtured his faith. It was the foundation gained in those years that sustained him through several tumultuous years during which he walked away from a faithful walk with the Lord and lived as a prodigal son.
